Dolapo, a young girl from Lagos Island, found herself trapped in a nightmare when her Uber driver, Michael Thompson, allegedly attempted to force her into a situation that would forever haunt her. This incident, cast a long shadow on her life, leaving her in a perpetual state of fear and anxiety.
Every morning, Mrs Bambe, Dolapo’s mother, always say a word of prayer for her children before stepping out to work. On This Fateful Day, Thompson, a 32-year-old Uber driver from Egbeda, reportedly veered off course from her intended destination.
Thompson allegedly canceled the route, attempting to coerce Dolapo into accompanying him to his home, where he intended to commit a heinous act, as stated by the Nassau County District Attorney’s Office. Despite Dolapo’s pleas and insistence that she be taken home, the driver continued in the wrong direction, making her feel increasingly vulnerable.
“It’s hard for me to open up and, like, trust people now because I put trust in that I would be able to get home safely. And I was not able to get home safely that night,” she shared during an interview. Thompson persistently pressured her to go for drinks, ignoring her age and her repeated refusals.
The turning point came when they reached Marina. Dolapo, quick-witted and determined, seized an opportunity to escape. Pretending to urgently need a bathroom break, she convinced Thompson to pull over. Once in a Tastee”s, she promptly called the police, seeking refuge from the danger that loomed. Thompson, following her into the fast-food restaurant, fled before the authorities arrived.
As Dolapo reflected on her escape, she confided that she believes her mother’s prayers played a pivotal role in her survival. In the darkest moments of the ordeal, she felt an inexplicable strength and guidance, as if a protective shield enveloped her. The power of her mother’s prayers became a beacon, guiding her steps toward freedom and safety. The resilience displayed by Dolapo not only showcased her courage but also highlighted the profound impact of faith and maternal love on her escape from a perilous situation.
